Playing with “Make 9” for 2018

Make 9 in 2018

Thank goodness for the new interest in Plus size fashion. It has been very inspiring for me! I am excited about 2018, though sewing hasn’t been a priority lately. I have found the #2018make9 on Instagram sheer fun. So I’m tossing my list in. It is heavy on Deer and Doe as I’ve been buying, loving, and not sewing their new extended size PDF patterns.

Clockwise from top left: Astoria cropped tee with long sleeves, Astoria paired with Chardon, the drape front top, an inspirational photo of a woman in a biker jacket and wide leg pants (pattern TBD), Goji skirt or shorts (probably lengthened to pant or capri), an inspirational photo of jersey palazzo pants (pattern TBD), Rio tee, and the Zephyr skater dress as a top and skirt (lengthed or switched with a maxi).

I basically looked through the clothes that make me feel awesome and dressed up for work like skirts and non-denim pants and worked from that fit/flare silhouette to add some basic tops with hems and lines to match the drapey pants and structured skirts. Now I’m going back to look at pieces I’ve stitched up so I can use those patterns to work through the new ones faster (i.e. my Rio tee in French terry that is worn weekly motivated me to choose Seamwork’s Astoria rather than trying to upsize Deer and Doe’s Ondee to match this look:

The classic shape paired with separates would make a nice backbone for a capsule style set for work that will mix and match with things I already own. It will also lend itself to work in the heat and the cold with the right combinations and layers.

Now the question of time begins. I have all the patterns prepped but how many will I actually make this year? Let’s ask the boys!
